Search Console: 7 leaks an AI agent catches early
Search Console is the most honest report there is about your website: it shows what people typed into Google, how many times your page appeared and how many times someone clicked. The problem is that almost nobody opens it. And when they do, they look at the monthly clicks chart, see a line going up or down and close the tab without knowing what to do.
Organic search leaks are silent. A page loses half its clicks in 3 weeks and nobody notices until sales complains that leads dropped. This guide is the step by step promised in the post: the 7 leaks an AI agent checks every morning in Search Console, the exact threshold for each one and the screen path so you can check them yourself.
Direct answer: the 7 leaks worth checking in Search Console are a page with 30% fewer clicks than the previous 28 days, a title in position 5 or better with CTR below 2%, a query between positions 8 and 15, two pages competing for the same query, a money page with 0 impressions, branded search down 15% and a query with impressions but no page of its own.
1. Page that dropped
What to check: pages that used to bring clicks and lost traction from one period to the next. It may be a new competitor, a Google update or a change on your own site.
The threshold: clicks 30% below the previous 28 days, on a page that had at least 100 clicks in the previous period.
How to do it in Search Console:
- Open Performance, Search results.
- In Date, choose Compare and select Last 28 days against the previous period.
- Open the Pages tab and sort by click difference.
- Flag every page down more than 30% with more than 100 clicks before.
You see the drop in the week it starts, not 3 months later. If the drop matches a weak sales period, the guide Sales dropped? A data diagnosis in 6 steps helps separate search from market.
2. Title nobody clicks
What to check: pages that are already at the top of Google and still get few clicks. The problem is almost never position: it is a title and description that do not convince.
The threshold: average position 5 or better, CTR below 2% and more than 1,000 impressions in the month.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, turn on Average CTR and Average position.
- Choose the last 28 days and open the Queries tab.
- Filter position smaller than 5.1 and sort by impressions.
- Flag queries with CTR below 2% and check which page shows for each.
You rewrite 1 title and win clicks without moving up. To know whether your CTR is good for the channel, see How to calculate CTR: formula and benchmarks by channel.
3. Query on the first page doorstep
What to check: queries where your page shows at the bottom of page one or the top of page two. This is where effort pays most: a few positions separate almost no clicks from real volume.
The threshold: average position between 8 and 15 with more than 500 impressions in the month.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, open the Queries tab for the last 28 days.
- Filter position greater than 7.9 and smaller than 15.1.
- Sort by impressions and keep those above 500.
- Click each query and check, in the Pages tab, which URL answers it.
You know which page to strengthen first: more content on that query, internal links pointing to it and a title that uses the search the way people type it.
4. Two pages fighting for the same query
What to check: whether Google alternates between two of your pages for the same search. When that happens, neither holds a position and the click is split.
The threshold: 2 of your URLs getting clicks for the same query within the same month.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, click New and choose Query, with the exact search.
- Open the Pages tab for that query.
- If 2 or more URLs show clicks, note them all.
- Decide which one stays and merge the content, with a 301 redirect from the other.
You merge the two and stop splitting clicks between pages that compete with each other.
5. Money page that vanished from Google
What to check: product, service or quote pages that should appear and do not. A URL change, a forgotten noindex tag or a crawl error removes the page from the index without warning.
The threshold: a product or service page with 0 impressions in 28 days.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, click New, choose Page and paste the URL.
- If it shows 0 impressions in 28 days, open URL inspection at the top of the screen.
- Check whether the page is indexed and, if not, why.
- Also check Indexing, Pages, looking for "Crawled, currently not indexed" and "Excluded by noindex tag".
You find out Google stopped showing exactly what you sell, and fix it before losing the month.
6. Branded search going down
What to check: how many people search your company name on Google. It is a demand thermometer that reacts before sales: when fewer people search the brand, the rest of the funnel usually follows.
The threshold: clicks on queries with the company name 15% below the previous month.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, click New, choose Query and use "Queries containing" with the brand name.
- In Date, compare the last 28 days with the previous period.
- Check the change in clicks and impressions.
- If it drops 15% or more, cross it with the paid media and brand activity calendar for the period.
It is the first sign that demand cooled, and it arrives weeks before month end.
7. Query without a page of its own
What to check: searches where Google already shows your site, but far down, because no page really covers the topic. These are ready-made content ideas, taken from what people type.
The threshold: a query with more than 300 impressions in the month and average position above 20.
How to do it in Search Console:
- In Performance, open the Queries tab for the last 28 days.
- Filter position greater than 20 and sort by impressions.
- Keep the queries above 300 impressions.
- For each one, check the page that shows: if it does not cover the topic, it is a brief for a new page.

When the check becomes a routine
Running the 7 checks once takes a morning. Doing it every week is what nobody sustains. In Sherlok, the SEO agent reads Search Console and the company's digital assets and leaves page and query tasks ready in the decision queue. It suggests; you or your team apply it on the site.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I look at Search Console?
Once a week is enough for the 7 thresholds in this guide. Search Console data arrives about 2 days late, so checking every hour does not change the decision.
Do the thresholds work for any website?
They are a starting point for sites with a few hundred organic clicks per month. On smaller sites, cut the minimum volumes (100 clicks, 500 impressions) in half; on large sites, raise them.
Do I need a paid SEO tool for this?
No. Everything in this guide comes from Search Console, which is free. A paid tool helps you look at competitors, but your site's leaks are already in the report Google gives you for free.
Organic search does not disappear overnight: it leaks little by little, one page at a time. Whoever checks the 7 thresholds every week sees the leak while it is still small. Whoever does not finds out at quarter end.
